Hi, I’m Dave DeWitt, also known as “The Pope of Peppersâ€Â because of all the books I’ve written on the subjects of chile peppers and fiery foods. I’m thrilled to team up with MexGrocer.com and be part of their new blog. It’ll be my job to help you cook great food—it’s as simple as that. And while my focus will be the food of Mexico and the Southwestern United States, I’m not going to ignore the rest of the world. After all, one of the best Mexican meals I ever tasted was at Café Pacifico—in Sydney, Australia! When I toured the kitchen, I knew why the food was so good—all the cooks were from Baja!
I’m very familiar with both Mexico and the American Southwest. I live in Albuquerque and have photographed the chiltepÃn harvest in Sonora, shot videotape for a chile pepper documentary in Cuernavaca, Mexico City, and Oaxaca, given a lecture on habaneros in Mérida, gone on a honeymoon in Puerta Vallarta, and hung out in Ciudad Juárez countless times. For my book, Cuisines of the Southwest, I traveled all over southwestern Texas and all of New Mexico and Arizona.
So it will be fun to work with the fine folks at MexGrocer.com. I’ll supply the stories and recipes and they’ll provide all the ingredients you’ll ever need to cook the food I’m writing about. And remember, if you ever need more spicy recipes and articles, just go to my Fiery Foods & Barbecue SuperSite at www.fiery-foods.com!
