Hot Chocolate Float

I have appointed my niece, Emily DeWitt-Cisneros, as food editor of the Fiery Foods and Barbecue SuperSite, and one of her duties will be to help out on this blog by developing recipes using products sold by MexGrocer.  Here’s her first one.

Hot Chocolate Float
chocolate floatWho doesn’t like an ice cream sundae? This is one you can drink. You may add a pinch of cayenne pepper to spice it up. For the adults you may add one shot of your favorite coffee liqueur or Irish cream. You can find the Chocolate Drink Mix in the Hispanic section in your Supermarket or at www.mexgrocer.com.

5 cups milk
2  3.15 oz ounce tablets Authentic Mexican Chocolate Drink Mix (Nestle Abuelita or Don Gustavo)
5 scoops vanilla ice cream
Chocolate syrup
Whipped cream

Heat the milk in a saucepan on low to medium heat until hot. While the milk is heating, cut the chocolate into fourths. Pour the milk into blender and add the chocolate. Frappe until smooth and the chocolate is melted. Pour the mixture into mugs halfway. Add 1 scoop of ice cream. Drizzle with chocolate syrup. Top with whipped cream and a cherry or chocolate shavings.

Yield: 5 servings
